Growing Cascade Hops gave me a new mission, purpose, and direction in my life. I exchanged blood on my hands for soil on my hands. I was now bringing things to life it was good. I now know there is nothing I can’t do with the help of my wife Stephanie, friends and family. Advising other veterans on how to grow plants or vegetables through Frontline Gardens helps me feel whole and it honors those combat buddies that died.

Erik Kingsley
Director (Colorado)
I joined the military right out of high school during the height of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
My first duty station was in Scholfield barracks Hawaii in 2005, where I met my loving wife, Ashley. After
my first deployment to Iraq (15 months total), I decided that the conventional Army was not the lifestyle
I wanted to live. Upon my return I went to Special Forces Assignment and Selection, where I was
selected and given the opportunity to attend the Special Forces Qualification course to become a Green
Beret. Early in 2010 I donned the Green Beret as an 18B (Special Forces Weapons Sergeant). For the next
13 years I deployed rapidly to austere environments, conducting missions across the globe. The constant
heavy losses on deployments, and the home front, took a toll on my mental, and physical self, along
with my family’s. With my mind and body exhausted and broken, I decided to finally retire. With just
over a year out from retirement, I’m finally able to focus on the highest priorities in my life, my God and
my family. My wife and I will have been married this Nov, for 16 years with five kiddos, and currently
reside in Woodland Park Colorado. We have found healing not only through counseling and therapy, but
also with horticultural. I consider myself a servant leader who just wants to give back and help others
find peace, contentment and balance in life like I am finding through Front Line Gardens. As the
Executive Director in Colorado, I hope to continue having a wonderful, purposeful time building healing
gardens throughout the community.
Chaz Ivy
Director (Eastern NC)
Chaz Ivy
Director (Eastern NC)
I’m originally from California and raised in southeastern NC. The product of a being a Marine Brat. I enlisted in the Marine Corps in 07 as a 0311. Got sent to Ramadi Iraq shortly after I hit the fleet. I was able to be apart of a smaller unit that focused more on surveillance, intelligence and reconnaissance missions. Then I was sent on some JTF-N operations at the Mexico border supporting CBP intelligence operations. I worked as a Combat Marksmanship Instructor for the remainder of my time. After my short tour in the Corps, I transitioned to contracting in range operations and training over at MARSOC then at the MAGTF. In 2015 I decided to finish up my bachelors degree in environmental science with a concentration in conservation, which led me to my career as a wildland firefighter for the USFS. After setting some roots down in NC, I started a new journey as a small business focusing on weapons and tactics training/ consulting. In August of 2022 I was blessed with a beautiful baby girl and a new career as a geospatial analyst. Being a girl dad is the most rewarding career I could ask for. During the time post service I found what healing powers nature and community service had to offer. I found great joy in sharing my personal journey with other veterans and first responders who live with mental and physical ailments. Seeing these individuals climb out of the darkness and prevail is one of the most rewarding feelings. Being heavily involved with the veteran community at the university as well as the local area has built a good network of support in the area. I’m so grateful to be apart of this organization and continue to give back to the veteran community. I hope to run a small farm one day to provide for my family and local community.

Stacy Johnson
Director (Middle NC)
Hi, I'm Stacy Johnson, a native of beautiful Northern California, in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. For two decades, I poured my heart and soul into serving the Santa Clara County Health and Hospital community. When I wasn't there, I pursued my passion for photography through my own small independent business. Photography is my muse, but you'd find me immersed in volunteer work when I wasn't behind the lens. For nearly two decades, I made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and personally distributed them to the homeless throughout the Bay Area. It's always been close to my heart. Fast-forward to June 2021, and I finally made the leap and retired, moving to the North Carolina with my better half. Now that we're both retired, we've been treating ourselves to the wonders of travel, exploring new places, and creating treasured memories.
